How much does five little millimeters in the width of a fridge matter? Quite a lot, the installer confides in us as he connects the white LG refrigerator.
Because if a fridge is 600 millimeters wide, it often cannot be placed in a standard built-in cabinet. This fridge is 595 millimeters wide, and it’s a good example of the details LG thought of when designing and manufacturing the impossibly named GLT71SWCSF.
Plenty of space
The five millimeters don’t matter when it comes to the volume of the fridge, which according to the specifications is exactly 386 liters. But 386 liters can be experienced differently, and in this case they feel really spacious. There are five shelves just in the door with space for all kinds of drinks and whatever else you store there.
Two huge vegetable drawers at the bottom of the cabinet should be enough for even the largest families. During the test period, we also particularly liked the narrow drawer in the middle of the cabinet, where there is room for snacks at child height. This is the kind of fridge that invites you to bring out your inner organizer and compete with the professionals known from TV and Netflix
Double up on cooling
Generally speaking, items that are less sensitive to temperature fluctuations should be placed in the door, but that problem should be less pronounced here because LG has not only ensured that the fridge cools the food from behind. There is also Door cooling, which stops when the door is opened, but still ensures that food stored in the door is quickly cooled down again. According to the manufacturer, 35 percent faster.
In addition, there is Linear cooling, which LG has trademarked. In recent years, several manufacturers have developed special technologies for refrigerators that can keep food fresher for longer by reducing temperature fluctuations. In this case, the technology is created with a special compressor, which it is not possible to take a closer look at. But LG promises that it ensures fresh taste for seven days.
During the test period, we stored grapes, small tomatoes and carrot sticks for packed lunches in the fridge for a week at a time, and both fruit and vegetables were still fresh when we arrived on Friday. In our old fridge, tomatoes can be rotten after a week, so the immediate assessment from here is that LG is probably on to something with their Linear Cooling technology.
Customizable vegetable drawer
Another small detail designed to extend the shelf life of fruit and vegetables is a small slider on the top vegetable drawer that can adjust the humidity in the drawer to optimize it for either fruit or vegetables. It’s a small detail that we’ve definitely forgotten to use, and the question is how many busy people would remember it. But we appreciate the optimism and opportunity, LG.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a really spacious fridge with just enough technology to keep your food as fresh as possible, but without the even fancier features that come with actual smart fridges, this one from LG is a good choice. We especially appreciate the spaciousness and the fact that we can chop vegetables for a week’s worth of packed lunches in one go.
