The brand new Rega Nd3 pickup is the result of 10 years of work to improve the sound reproduction of the MM pickup. And according to Rega, they have succeeded. The Rega Nd3 pickup replaces the Elys model, which has been on the market for over 30 years.

The world’s most powerful magnet type

Named after the element Neodymium, the Nd3 is the first moving magnet pickup to utilise a Neodymium N55 magnet. The N55 magnet is the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet type. Developed over a 10-year period, the design is said to deliver more dynamics and more detail in music.

The pickup is mounted in an injection moulded polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) housing with glass filling. It is a lightweight and very rigid material that helps reduce stress on the tonearm bearings. The new body design is inspired by Rega’s successful MC pickup series. The Nd3 has an aluminium needle tube and is equipped with an elliptical needle in Rega’s own design

Rega's flagship sounds divine and is worth every penny, even though it may not look like you'll get much for your money.

Hand-built in England

Each Nd3 pickup is hand-built at Rega in the South of England. The design features a new symmetrical generator that improves the highest frequencies and has less crosstalk than conventional MM pickups. This contributes to a more accurate reading of the groove with typically better separation of instruments and details than other MM pickups.

With so many superlatives and brand new technologies, the price is surprisingly affordable. The Rega Nd3 costs the same as the Elys pickup: €228.
