The long-awaited High End fair in Munich opens today, with some exotic, heavy and expensive hi-fi on the menu. Tradition-rich Marantz is of course there too, featuring among other things a new CD player! But compared to the other expensive products at the fair, the CD 60 doesn’t cost very much!
Marantz CD 60
Marantz remains keen to keep the classic CD format alive: the Japanese hi-fi producer has been known for its affordable CD players over the years, and they’re keen to build on that reputation. Marantz CD 60 should be a simple, but solid construction focusing on optimal playback of CDs.
“With all the attention the dizzying vinyl market has received, and not least the popularity for streaming content, it can be easy to forget that a whole generation of music lovers are sitting on substantial collections of beloved CD records,” said Joel Sietsema, who is head of the Marantz brand. Now, the CD 60 reminds us why we fell in love with the format 40 years ago – and delivers more warmth, musicality and detail than any player in its class.” says Sietsema.
The CD 60 has a solid, modern design that is designed to be combined with existing Marantz amplifiers: among other things, the CD 60 will be a perfect companion to the new MODEL 40n integrated stereo amplifier. These two hi-fi components should, according to Marantz, make a formidable pair, for those who value their CD collection as well as modern streaming possibilities.
All you need is this amp and a pair of great speakers, and you've got a fabulous system.
Promises unbeatable CD enjoyment, plus USB playback
The CD 60 uses a new reference D/A converter (up to 192kHz/24-bit and DSD 5.6MHz), plus the latest HDAM amplifier modules from Marantz in the analogue output stage. These modules have been further optimised to provide lower distortion. In addition to CD playback, the CD 60 also has a USB-A port on the front panel, for playback of digital files such as MP3, WMA, AAC and WAV, FLAC HD, ALAC, AIFF ( up to 192-kHz/24bit), and DSD (up to 5.6-MHz).
High-quality headphone output
The CD 60 also boasts a sophisticated headphone output: Here Marantz is using their exclusive HDAM-SA2 amplifier circuit. You can choose between three different gain settings (Low/Medium/High) to match different headphones. The headphone amplifier can also be switched off when not in use, to eliminate unwanted interference.
Price and availability
The Marantz CD 60 player will be available from June 2022, with a recommended price of €899.
It’s a media disc player that can play DSD files, up to DSD128…
Why in the hell it can’t play DSD64 SACD discs?
Because they don’t want to pay royalty to Sony.
I was going to comment the exact thing regarding SACDs! Dumb choice on Marantz’s part. I’m still waiting for a value/feature competitive player comparable to my Oppo UDP-205.
It only plays cd’s because it only had an infrared laser. So no red laser for dvd-like formats if I have read the specs correct.
The reasons for no sacd playback is because the player was built at a cost at 1k U.S. and adding a?extra laser and paying Sony for their decoding tech of sacd but Sony was forced by the music industry to add the decoding chip ! A lot of people dont know this !! But i have been spinning the silver disk since 1989 and the best cd players are what i call pure cd players theirs no multi function laser cd/dvd/Bluray/sacd/dvd audio once you add all this the circuit becomes more busy ! Basically the Cd60 is a pure redbook player
I want to review it badly on my utube channel TeeJay the Stereo Bargainphile 😆
That’s all, I will buy it ☺️
Snake oil product.
How many CD’s can go on it?
Interesting, what’s next
Only one CD ar a time? Why not loading multiple CDs to platy?
