Bose is on the way with a new series of noise-cancelling headphones: According to The Verge, Engadget and Mysmartprice, who have allegedly found “leaked” information about the new headphones with the self-confident model name QuietComfort Ultra.
Bose has a solid reputation for noise-cancelling headphones, and both the QuietComfort series headphones and earbuds are a popular choice among music lovers on the go. That said, there are plenty of competitors, and recently the American manufacturer has faced competition from the Sony WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM5, not to mention Apple and their AirPods Max and AirPods Pro.
QuietComfort 45 is essentially a QC35 II with ambient sound - and USB-C.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Better noise cancellation, better sound and fewer buttons?
Bose has been working on the successor to the current QuietComfort 45 for a long time, but now they are supposedly on their way: According to rumours, we can expect up to 24 hours of battery life, better noise cancellation and sound that adapts to the shape of your ears.
Perhaps the biggest news, however, is that the new Bose headphones will – allegedly – support Spatial Audio. This means that we can expect the new models to work better with modern soundtracks and music in Dolby Atmos format. Bose reportedly calls this feature Immersive Audio.
The new Ultra models come in black and white and will have a smoother, cleaner form factor with fewer buttons than their predecessors. The leaked images show, among other things, a thin strip or “volume slider” where you adjust the volume by dragging your finger along the line.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds
We can also expect upgraded earbuds: the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds could be the successor to the QuietComfort Earbuds II, which we recently tested. We were relatively satisfied with the sound, but found that Bose has some work to do when it comes to the usability of the app itself. Let’s hope Bose has gone a few internal rounds with it since last time.
Price and availability
The Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Ultra Earbuds haven’t been officially launched yet, so it’s difficult to determine an exact price and release date. However, rumour has it that the new models will hit the market in September and will cost around €500 for the headphones and €350 euros for the earbuds.
