FiiO from China has proven time and time again that their super stylish products also have high audio standards. For example, the amazing FiiO K9 Pro ESS headphone amplifier.
That’s why we’re excited about FiiO’s new headphones, the FT5. These are planar magnetic headphones at the literally heavy end of the scale: the diaphragm diameter is a whopping 90 mm – in other words, like a pair of slightly oversized crumpets.
The FiiO K9 Pro ESS can drive virtually any headphone, and it has all the digital and analogue inputs you need. Bluetooth as well!
This should guarantee that the open headphones can also play weighty deep bass. And as for the rest of the frequency range, which is listed as 7-40,000 Hz, planar magnetic headphones are generally very well resolved.
FiiO states that the diaphragm thickness is just 6 microns and the embedded voice coil wires are made of an aluminium alloy. With a sensitivity of 110 dB/V and a power handling of two watts (that’s a lot in the headphone world!), even our resident headphone expert Geir “they play too quiet!” Nordby can get enough sound pressure.
Availability and price
Planar magnetic headphones of this size usually cost a bloody fortune, but FiiO is known for their very accessible pricing. FiiO FT5 will be listed at £449 when they become available at the end of November.
