First impressions of the iPhone XS

At a press event in California, Apple showed no less than three new iPhone models. For starters, a scaled down model with an LCD screen, called iPhone XR.

The easiest way to tell it apart from the other models is that it has a single camera.

iPhone XR comes in white, black, blue, yellow or coral. It reminded us of the old iPhone 5C. But less plasticky. The iPhone XR has the same premium feel as the top models.

However the nicest color was the Product Red.

The new A12 Bionic processor and graphics chip are crazy fast. It’s going to be interesting to run performance benchmarks when we get our test sample.

Although the 6,1 inch screen isn’t OLED, like the top models, both sharpness and color reproduction are excellent.

A really nice feature is that you now can select how much background blur “bokeh” you want in Portrait mode. It also seems like the Portrait mode has become better at separating the person from the background.

Taking the iPhone to the Max

The main event of the day, of course, were the premium models iPhone XS and XS Max.

With a 6,5 inch screen, the Max-model is absurdly big. The phones are now starting to approach iPad Mini sizes. It will probably take some getting used to it before it starts feeling normal. At least that’s what happened with the old Plus models. At first they felt too big, but after adapting you really enjoyed that plus sized screen.

For you brave ones out there who don’t use a cover, you can show off the new gold color option.

The camera sensor is twice as fast, and with the help of the Neural Engine we’re supposed to get even better photos. When we get our hands on a test sample, we’ll put the camera to the test.
