As most people have probably realised, we are nearing the end of HBO Max as a standalone streaming service.
Exactly one year ago, it became clear that Warner Media/Discovery would scrap the HBO name in the US and then “merge” Discovery+ with HBO Max and launch the more all-encompassing streaming service “Max“.
Not only with a new name, but also with a new focus. Now it’s time for the European launch.
From 21 May this year, HBO Max content will become part of the Warner Media and Discovery conglomerate, and all content will be brought together in Max.
Now WarnerMedia has announced that a brand new series will be launched on Max’s “birthday”.
The Norwegian original series, with the slightly corny name MILF of Norway, will be available for streaming from 21 May.
And no, this is (thankfully) not a new, cheesy reality series, but a drama series with a humorous edge; signed by director Rune Langlo.
Programme Director at Warner Bros. Discovery Norway, Magnus Vatn, has high hopes for the series:
MILF of Norway is a series we are very proud of, and we think it’s great that this series will be launched together with our new streaming service in Europe. It shows that the content we produce here in Norway has the potential to reach an international audience.
We’ve shown many times before that we create content that touches both the heart and the laughter muscles, and we’re quite sure that MILF of Norway is no exception. It’s a multi-layered series that both challenges and entertains.”
From the action summary we can read:
The spark in the marriage has faded, and when Lene suddenly loses her job, she feels wronged and confused. Mostly for fun, she posts a scantily clad picture of herself wearing a bunad (Norwegian folk costume) on the website InsideFans and realises that Bunad Erotica is a niche that hits the spot. The new income is welcome, but even more important is the excitement and freedom she feels in her new secret life. At the same time, the fear of being found out is exhausting – who are the people watching her?”
The series will consist of 8 episodes with weekly Friday premieres.
The main roles are played by Trond Fausa Aurvåg (Lilyhammer, Oppenheimer) and Mariann Hole (Half Brother, Wisting).
Max calls the series a “national erotic humour drama” and an initially sceptical Mariann Hole believes she has found her dream role:
A series about online porn and self-realisation wasn’t at the top of my wish list, but the script was fantastic and with a dream cast and Rune Langlo as director, I couldn’t say no. This is the dream role that I didn’t know I wanted. It’s turned out so much more than I imagined and I hope people will enjoy our fun and rather dark universe.”
Hole’s character, Lene, is an ordinary teenage mum in her early 40s who lives in a quiet village outside Oslo with her husband Lars (Fausa Aurvåg) and son Mons (Fridtjof B. Roland).
NB: Max is also launching another Nordic series on 21 May. It will be the documentary This is Benjamin Ingrosso.
The series follows the 26-year-old through his summer tour and will attempt to give fans an insight into the artist/actor’s life.
