Philips Hue is the gold standard when it comes to smart lighting in the home. Whether it is LED bulbs for your lamps in the living room, flexible LED strips for the teenage room or spots for the terrace and garden, Philips Hue has your back with an extremely wide range.
This also includes the so-called Gradient series of products, which have in common that they can light up with several colors at once. Thus also the brand new Philips Hue Signe Gradient floor lamp, which is the subject of this test.
Can be used in two ways
The floor lamp consists of a cylindrical base and a thin LED tube, which protrudes almost one and a half meters into the air. The LED tube is integrated in the lamp and can not be replaced. On the other hand, Signify – the company that produces the smart lighting products under the name Philips Hue – promises that the lamp’s light source has a lifespan of 25,000 hours, which corresponds to 1,041 days or almost three years. If it is lit continuously.
The fluorescent lamp of the lamp is blinded on one side, allowing two different usage scenarios. Either the lamp can be set up against the wall with the light source pointing towards the wall and away from the room, so that the colorful lighting hits the wall and thus illuminates the room indirectly. Or you can turn the lamp so that the light source points directly into the room, which really lights up, as the Philips Hue Signe Gradient floor lamp can deliver up to 2550 lumens.
Three colors
Regardless of location, the Gradient function means that the thin LED tube of the floor lamp most of all resembles a striped lightsaber. As mentioned, the lamp can light up in several different colors at once – three, to be exact – and the color scheme and the actual combination of colors can be set manually in the Philips Hue app on your smartphone. This is done by selecting three points on the color scale, where you can also see the location of other Hue light sources on the same.
This way, you can customize the color combination of the Gradient lamp exactly as you want. Also in relation to the total lighting in the room.
Complete integration
Of course, the Philips Hue Signe Gradient floor lamp can also be included in the Hue ecosystem on an equal footing with all other Hue products – ie e.g. as part of scenes and automations.
In addition, the floor lamp can be used both with the Hue Sync Box and with the new Spotify synchronization function in the Philips Hue app. The latter can be seen demonstrated in the video below.
The above requires the entire ecosystem to be integrated via a Philips Hue Bridge, but the floor lamp can also stand alone. In that case, it can be controlled directly from the mobile via Bluetooth.
Voice control via Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa is of course also an option. It just requires the lamp to be connected via Hue Sync Box.
Conclusion
The Philips Hue Signe Gradient floor lamp is the coolest Hue product we have tested to date. When it just stands on its own without being on, it is not the most beautiful sight in the world, and it may be a dealbreaker to some that the lamp has, so to speak, an expiration date, since the LED tube can not be replaced, but is otherwise there is very little bad to say about the new Hue product.
With the many options for combining colors, the floor lamp makes the room come alive. It lights up, creates mood and can be integrated with both your TV and Spotify, just like it, like all other Philips Hue products, can be voice controlled and fully integrated into all common Smart Home ecosystems.
We are happy to give our special recommendation.
